During her postdoctoral training, she studied the role of feed forward inhibition in the collision detection circuits of grasshoppers. During her tenure at the BPRI, Hongxia pioneered single cell RNA sequencing protocols for the LGMD neuron. He helped ASU ecologists research locust swarming behavior. She was involved in studies of locust swarming behavior in response to environmental cues and stresses. She worked on characterizing the microbiota of the South American Locust. She is also the Director of Education and Diversity Initiatives in the Human Genome Sequencing Center (HGSC) where she conducts diversity interventions research. Behmer and Sword until the Fall 2022. Her research interests broadly encompassed eco-physiology. She holds a M.S. in Biology from Washington State University. She was pursuing a B.S. in Neuroscience in the College of Veterinary Medicine at Texas A&amp;M University. She completed a Ph.D. in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology at the University of Idaho where she worked on the genomic basis of rapid evolution in tamarisk beetles and Tasmanian devils. She worked to develop high-quality reference genomes, annotations, and population genomics datasets to inform management decisions on the ground. Margaret studied the escape behavior and neurophysiology of different <em>Schistocerca<\/em> species in&nbsp;gregarious and solitary states. Her interests were in molecular biology and microbiology. Her research focused on the comparison of gut microbiomes between lab-reared and wild caught <em>Schistocerca cancellata<\/em> grasshoppers. She has a B.S. and a M.S. in biomedical engineering. Born and raised in Vietnam, he came to the U.S. to pursue a BA in Biology and minor in General Business at the University of St. Thomas, Houston. He helped&nbsp;create&nbsp;a broad range of effector cassettes to modify genes in&nbsp;insects by using CRISPR\/Cas9 and&nbsp;the&nbsp;GoldenBraid&nbsp;iterative&nbsp;cloning technique. Her background is in educational advocacy and consulting; she joined WUSTL\u2019s Academy having partnered with organizations, coalitions, and initiatives across the St. Louis region on research, strategy, facilitation, and organizational process improvement through the lens of Racial Equity. She was an undergraduate student at Texas A&amp;M University majoring in Public Health and is on the pre-medical track. After graduation she hopes to continue her education in medical school and eventually go on to get her masters in public health as well. She has previous experience with research through an internship at Houston Methodist Hospital where she carried out research in the sports medicine and orthopedics department.
